Schools made to involve BN leaders in RM100 handout...
Some schools in Johor have been instructed to invite BN leaders to
distribute the one-off RM100 cash aid for students and display banners
publicising the event until the next general election.
These instructions were contained in documents found on the websites of the the Education Ministry and several Johor district education offices’ (DEO).
On the Kota Tinggi DEO website, a Powerpoint presentation specified that the disbursement session was to be attended by “BN elected representatives or his representative”.
The website said that this Powerpoint was presented to senior teachers in the district on Jan 8.
A similar requirement can be found on a letter signed by ministry secretary-general Rosli Mohamed on Dec 5 last year and a Powerpoint presentation posted on Kluang DEO’s website.
“The distribution of the Bantuan Khas Awal Persekolahan is the government’s ‘touch point’ with the rakyat.
“Therefore, the involvement of election representatives, including members of parliament and assemblypersons or selected officials from the federal government is encouraged to help present the aid to the student’s parents or guardians,” says the ministry's letter.
The letter is addressed to several directors within the ministry, including all state education directors. Banners with PM's mugshot
A separate letter signed by Rosli on Dec 31 and posted on the Johor Bahru DEO website also stipulated that the “elected representatives or federal government leaders” who may be invited are:
A school representative from Pontian who had attended one such briefing has confirmed such details.
“Each school must print a banner, and it must contain a picture of the prime minister (Najib Abdul Razak), the education minister (Muhyiddin Yassin), and the words ‘Janji Ditepati’.
"It must be displayed until the elections are held,” said the representative, who declined to be named.
The financial aid for students was announced in Budget 2013 and is expected to benefit 5.4 million from Year One to Form Five.
Malaysiakini has sent short messages to two Deputy Education Ministers, Mohd Puad Zarkashi and Wee Ka Siong, for comments while Kota Tinggi district education officer Md Din Hussien refused to talk on the issue, citing that only the minister, deputy ministers and state director have the power to comment.-malaysiakini
